Year 9 & 10 Coordinator’s Message

I am pleased to welcome back everybody in the Sirius College family. Hopefully a relaxing break was had by all. The 2017 year has begun well. The year 9&10 cohorts have settled into their academic roles soundly and I am embracing my eighth year as a coordinator.

This year we have many new students joining the Sirius college family throughout the year levels. Welcome to all the new students and their families and I hope you settle in quickly. Change is difficult for everyone and it is normal to feel anxious initially. Sirius College is very welcoming, but if anyone does experience difficulty in settling in we have our counsellor ready to offer her guidance and I am always available to help.

The new Sirius College uniform is finally here and all students should be wearing it. Students must be in full school uniform to and from school and while in school. The sports jacket is not part of the daily uniform; it should only be worn for PE class. Consequences apply to students who repeatedly break the school rules. Some changes include that white knee high socks must be worn by all students from years 7 to 12. This is effective immediately. Black socks are no longer acceptable and have not been from last year. Finally please encourage your daughters to label their uniform, to avoid mix ups with other students items which are identical.

Lateness to school on a regular basis has negative effects on a student’s learning. In particular, when they are missing the same subject regularly, there will be gaps in their learning. Lessons begin at 8.50am sharp every day. Lateness also has an effect on everyone else as it causes unnecessary disruptions to the order of the school day. Please endeavour to encourage your daughters to be on time so that they get the most out of their education.

I am looking forward to another great year with the year 10s and creating relationships with the year 9s who are all new to me. All the year 10 students are studying a VCE subject this year and from what I have seen so far, most are approaching their studies with much enthusiasm. Keep up the fantastic attitude.

Looking forward to an eventful 2017!

Mrs Gordana Janev
Year 9 & 10 Coordinator
